DOCTOR: WHAT DOES HE NEED FROM PUBLIC? |
|
Medical profession is the one of the oldest and the most challenging professions of the world, which deals directly with the public in general and sick in particular. A doctor is the chief architect of the profession.
Everybody will agree that the doctors job is aimed at knowing (a) what is wrong with the patient (diagnosis), (b) What is to be done for the patient treatment and what is the outcome of the disease (prognosis). These objectives have been substantially affected by the changing pattern of disease, expansion of biological knowledge, increasingly complicated technology of medicine, and changing attitude of public. Public always expects more from the doctor. He expects high technical competence emotional neutrality & orientation to the collectivity i.e: others. In dispersing this it is the doctor who loses his identity as a personal self. The public rarely give any attention to this .Therefore whenever a doctor has been identified as a person he faces the wrath of the public. Therefore my message to the public is that at the public should think about a doctor also as a common man like himself with emotion, social life, family life with all the day to day problems.
A doctor is a professional with a lot of responsibility without any significant power. He should not be seen always with a negative feeling. He also requires the good will of the public so that he can serve the public better. |
